The author puts a question about proper hermeneutics of the texts in Ezekiel 16 and 23. He asks this question in the context of feminist exegesis of these prophecies, which reads it in three clues: prophetic pornography, domestic violence and gender reversal. A critical assessment of these proposals makes one indicate certain hermeneutical principles to be applied in reading (including the feminist one) in Ezekiel 16 and 23: interpreting these texts must involve tradition criticism as well as literary analysis of the martial metaphor of Yahweh and Israel. One must also include the original communicative context present in the oracles as well as historical-salvific context which is Yahweh’s covenant with Israel.
