The known gibberellins A15, A17, A19, A20, A24, A25 (tentative), and GA44, and indole-3-acetic acid have been identified in developing wheat grain by GC-MS. In addition five putative new gibberellins were detected. Two of them, GA54 and GA55, have since been established by direct comparison with synthetic specimens, supplied by Professor N. Takahashi. An alternative synthesis of GA55 methyl ester is described.
