Abstract

Diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism is based on biochemical findings.The combination of 99Tcm sestamibi scintigraphy and ultrasound may provide the best diagnostic tool for localization of parathyroid tumours prior to initial exploration, or prior to re-operation for recurrent/persistent hyperparathyroidism.CT and MRI are particularly useful for localization of parathyroid tumours located in the mediastium.
