Although clinical, pathological and radiological characteristics of volvulus of the caecum have been described in the literature, the occurrence of a volvulus in the course of a barium enema and the possibility of demonstrating the actual twisting of the bowel in this way seems to justify a short report. A man of seventy-two years had been suffering for about ten months from sudden attacks of severe pain in his right lower abdomen, followed by profuse diarrhœa. Examination revealed tenderness at the caecal region, but no tumour could be palpated.
