Abstract We evaluated the softness of various silicone elastomers installed on a tactile evaluation system. The softness of the elastomers was reflected by the vertical force when subjects pushed the elastomers with their fingers. The moving behavior depended on the elastic properties of the contacted objects; namely, a pushing pattern and a sliding pattern were observed for the soft and hard elastomers, respectively.
