Abstract (−)-Pyrrolidine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid, an acidic amino acid component of marine red alga Schizymenia dubyi, has been synthesized with a direct chain elongation reaction of N-carbamoylpyroglutamates at C-5 and a pyrrolidine ring formation.
