Abstract

\(P\) sei die folgende Abschwächung der Kontinuumshypothese: Die Mächtigkeit der Gesamtheit der Untermengen einer überabzählbaren Grundmenge ist größer als die des Kontinuums. Mit \(P\) als äquivalent erweist sich die folgende Aussage: Der metrische Raum \(X\) ist dann und nur dann separabel, wenn die Mächtigkeit der Gesamtheit seiner Borelschen Mengen die des Kontinuums nicht übertrifft. Der Beweis führt über die \(P\) nicht benötigende Bemerkung, daß \(X\) dann und nur dann separabel ist, wenn jede Familie disjunkter, nichtleerer offener Untermengen abzählbar ist.
