Abstract

The aim of radiotherapy is to deliver the desired tumoricidal dose to the intended target as accurately and reliably as possible and avoid unnecessary dose to surrounding normal tissues. This principle was recognized when irradiation was utilized therapeutically over 100 years ago and has been the guiding force for development and refinement of modern radiotherapeutic practice and strategy.
