AbstractElemental analysis of pigments by particle induced X-ray and gamma-ray emission (PIXE/PIGE) has been developed for application to paintings. Basic features of these methods have been studied. It is shown that simultaneous use of PIXE and PIGE covers the most important region of interest in nondestructive elemental analysis of inorganic pigments.
