
AbstractThree formulations of fluorophlogopite and orthoclase (4 : 1, 1 : 1, and 1 : 4 molar mixes, based on the stoichiometric composition) were prepared utilising local potash feldspar, as the main constituent for dental porcelain containing leucite and fluorophlogopite. Powders of the fritted batches were heat treated for 2 h at between 950 and 1050°C, The main crystalline phases were detected by XRD and the microstructures characterised by SEM with EDAX attachment. A mixture of leucite and mica was present in the 1 : 1 formulation heat treated at 950 and 1000°C, with mica as sole phase at 1050°C. Leucite was detected in the orthoclase rich formulation 1 : 4. A mixture of leucite, mica, and forsterite was found in the mica rich formulation 4 : 1.
