A discussion of the factors which affect cold crack and low temperature flexibility - This article is concerned mainly with canvas products as defined by CPAI and will include coated fabrics used for tarpaulins but may, in some cases, overlap into other coated fabric areas. There will be discussion on testing methods for cold crack and index of stiffness as determined by means of a cantilever beam. The effect on cold crack by the major thermoplastics, plasticizer content, fillers, pigments, and processing will be discussed. All these factors have a bearing on cold crack and flex ibility at low temperatures.
