Abstract

Die mehrfach unterbrochene Kette tertiärer und jüngerer vulkanischer Gesteine, welche Java der Länge nach durchzieht, wird nordwärts und südwärts sowie in den Lücken von tertiären und quartären Ablagerungen eingerahmt ¹). Kreideformation und hoch krystalline Schiefer treten ganz vereinzelt und auf wenige Aufschlüsse beschränkt zutage. An Hand geologischer Beobachtungen und umfangreicher Aufsammlungen organischer Einschlüsse, welche Junghuhn, Yerbeek und Fennema sowie K. Martin in zum Teil jahrelangen Bemühungen gemacht haben, hat K. Martin, „auf den Prozentsatz noch lebender Arten unter den Versteinerungen sowie die verwandtschaftlichen Beziehungen der übrigen Wirbellosen, insonderheit der Mollusken” ²), und auf die stratigraphische Verteilung der Foraminiferen gestützt, eine Gliederung des javanischen Tertiärs ³) gegeben, welche mit H. Douvillés Ergebnissen über die zeitliche Aufeinanderfolge der ostindischen Nummuliniden in Einklang steht.
