Excessive amounts of amylase were determined in 22 normal human tonsils by Winslow's method for the determination of serum amylase. The amylase content ranged from 44 to 704 U, mean 161 U. Since some malignant neoplasms are known to produce amylase, the present estimations might serve as a baseline for further investigation of lymphomas and carcinomas of the tonsils.
