Abstract

Der vorliegende Essay befasst sich kritisch mit den Erklärungs- und Einordnungsversuchen des Selfies in einen populären medialen Diskurs und auf der anderen Seite in den fachlichen Diskurs der Kunstwissenschaft. Anschließend versucht sich die Autorin selbst an einer Erklärung der in den meisten Artikeln als Massenphänomen bezeichneten Selfies unter Zuhilfenahme der Bildschirmtheorie von Kaja Silverman, einer Erweiterung der Lacanschen Theorie des Blickregimes. Indem Antworten auf die Fragen des massenhaften Vorkommens und des seriellen Charakters der Selfies mit Hilfe lacanianischer-psychoanalytischer Theoriemodelle gegeben werden, wird deutlich, dass die Verbindung von Subjekt zu seinem Objekt der Begierde, dem Objekt a, eine Bedingung seiner Menschlichkeit zugrunde liegt.
