Abstract

Ta książka może wywołać zdumienie u polskiego czytelnika przyzwyczajonego do określonej narracji o historii Polski Ludowej. Ukazuje odbudowę kraju poprzez opis życia robotników w ich środowisku naturalnym w latach 1945-1950. Ujęcie tematu i opis są wyjątkowe pod każdym względem na tle polskiej historiografii ostatniego ćwierćwiecza. Padraic Kenney, rocznik 1963, jest profesorem Uniwersytetu Indiana w USA. Jego badania dotyczą głównie historii ustroju komunistycznego w Europie Wschodniej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Polski. Na początku lat dwutysięcznych prowadził wykłady we Wrocławiu. Jest autorem, m.in., książek dotyczących powojennej historii Polski, z których dwie ukazały się po polsku „Rewolucyjny Karnawał. Europa środkowa"(1989) oraz „Wrocławskie zadymy" (2007).
