Two problems have been undertaken in this thesis: a solitary wave which has been proposed as a model for nerve impulse transmission has been exposed to periodic perturbations, resulting in chaotic evolution, and spiral patterns as are observed experimentally have been sought and found in a simple model of slime mold aggregation.
