The anatomy and angiographic appearance of the circumaortic left renal vein are discussed. In this anomaly, the vein bifurcates and encircles the aorta, with each limb entering the inferior vena cava separately. This variant occurs in approximately 1.5 to 6 per cent of all cases. The clinical implications of correct identification are noted.
