Abstract

Two patients with ectopic accessory lobes of the submandibular gland are discussed. The diagnosis was established conclusively by sialography. The embryological origin of the submandibular and sublingual glands is discussed to explain the genesis of this unusual anatomical variant. Positive confirmation of the etiology of the neck mass spared both patients excisional biopsy.
