A Simplified Technique for Transbronchial Lung Biopsy

Abstract

Passing an endotracheal tube instead of a large or modified Metras catheter through the larynx ensures that the catheter can be placed easily in the appropriate lung segment, minimizes laryngeal irritation, prevents laryngeal spasm, allows more breathing space in the airway, and facilitates prompt resuscitation if respiratory distress or cardiac arrest should develop.
