DNA-dependent RNA polymerase has been isolated from sonicated nuclei of the ciliate protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis. The enzyme has been further purified by column chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex and is approximately 300-fold purified relative to total cellular protein.
