Teratological floral parts corresponding to petals and stamens capped by stigmatoid lobes are found in double male flowers. These abnormal structures are quite comparable with normal stigmas in their morphology, histology, and histochemistry. Like the stigmas, the stigmatoid formations present a glandular activity and release an essentially hydrophobic exsudate. Fundamental differences between normal stigmas and stigmatoid formations cannot be demonstrated by the methods used.
