by deriving necessary and sufficient conditions for the stability of nonlinear computing schemes. In ? 1, we motivate the concept of stability to be used here and provide the basic definitions. In ? 2, we prove the main theorem on stability which relates stability to conditions on the Frechet derivatives of the operators. As corollaries of this theorem we obtain Mikhlin's basic results and examine the computing scheme of Vainikko [11]. In ? 3, special cases and examples of the main theorem are given.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 8 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
