Abstract

Verf. hat in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 24, 1--24 (1968; Zbl 0188.43702)] die optimale Approximation linearer Funktionale auf Hilbert-Räumen behandelt; hier beschäftigt er sich mit diesem Problem für lineare beschränkte Operatoren. Es seien \(E\), \(F\), \(E_h\) und \(F_h\) Hilbert-Räume \((h\) aus einer Indexmenge), ferner seien \(r_h\in [E,E_h]\) und \(s_h\in [F,F_h]\) surjektive Operatoren (Approximationen), \(p_h\in [E_h,E]\) und \(q_h\in [F_h,F]\) Isomorphismen (Interpolationen). Zu einem Operator \(A\in [E,F]\) wird der Operators \(A_h\in [E_h,F_h]\) gesucht, für den \[\Psi(A_h ) = \sup_{\Vert u\Vert_E \le 1} \Vert A_hr_hu - s_hAu\Vert_{F_h}\quad\text{bzw. } \Phi(A_h) = \sup_{\Vert u_h\Vert_{E_h\le 1}} \Vert Ap_hu_h - q_hA_hu_h\Vert_{F_h} \] sein Minimum annimmt. Folgende Sätze werden bewiesen: (1) Seien \(r_h\) und \(s_h\) gegeben. \(\Psi(A_h)\) ist dann minimal, wenn \(A_h = s_hAp_h\) und \(p_h\) optimale Interpolation bezüglich \(r_h\) ist, d.h. \(r_hp_hu_h = u_h\) für alle \(u_h\in E_h\) und \(\Vert p_hu_h \Vert_E\le \Vert v\Vert_E\) für alle \(v \in E\) mit \(r_hv = u_h\). (2) Seien \(p_h\) und \(q_h\) gegeben. Dann ist \(\Phi(A_h)\) minimal, wenn \(A_h = s_hAp_h\) und \(s_h\) optimale Approximation bezüglich \(q_h\) ist, d.h. \[ \Vert u - q_hs_hu\Vert_F = \inf_{u_h\in F_h} \Vert u - q_hu_h\Vert_F. \] Sind \(F=E'\) und \(F_h = E'_h\), d.h. die zu \(E\) bzw. \(E_h\) dualen Räume, dann gewinnen die optimalen Approximationen und Interpolationen eine besonders einfache Darstellung, ferner führt die Dualität zu gewissen Symmetrien. Dies hat z.B. zur Folge, daß \(A_h = p'_hAp_h\in [E_h,E'_h]\), \(p'_h\) adjungierter Operator von \(p_h\), in diesem Fall optimale Approximation an \(A\in [E,E']\) ist.
