In the recent editorial ‘BVD eradication steps up a gear’ ( VR , 20 July 2019, vol 185, p 67) the editor, Adele Waters, highlights the measures taken to eradicate bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) across the UK. BVD is a complex disease to control and careful consideration of both the disease and the specifics of the industry within each devolved region are required to develop successful eradication strategies. Beyond the general principles of disease control, there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to the eradication of BVD, or any disease for that matter.
