Abstract

I write in response to the letter from Catriona Ritchie ( VR , 28 July 2018, vol 183, p 134) regarding the use of blood sampling to augment Johne’s disease control programmes in dairy herds. A significant diagnostic problem with mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis , and other mycobacterial infections, is that both detectable immunological responses and organisms can be intermittent and are generally not constant.
