REGARDING Nick De Regge's recent editorial on the possible re-emergence of Schmallenberg virus (SBV) ( VR , October 29, 2016, vol 179, pp 432-434), we would like to highlight a recent study which used different surveillance techniques (a sentinel herd and Culicoides monitoring surveillance model), as suggested by De Regge, which adds to the limited available data on SBV surveillance from 2013 onwards.
