SIR, — Your report of the setting up of a canine blood bank by Vets Now ( VR , April 28, 2007, vol 160, p 563) informs us that blood is collected from ‘volunteer dogs’. Is this not an altruistic anthropomorphism? Surely they are volunteered dogs
