I was in the United States recently, driving along local roads the size of UK motorways. A road sign indicated an approaching hospital, and I turned to catch a glimpse of its buildings. They could have been of any suburban hospital in any developed country—a mix of concrete, steel, and glass. One difference was striking, however: a sign underneath the usual directions for the emergency room and maternity department advertised valet parking. Imagine that!
