Many investigators have studied the airborne noise radiated from machines or groups of machines operating in a semireverberant space. The similar situation for the noise levels produced in a water-filled, semireverberant space has received little consideration. Recently, broad-band measurements were made of the noise radiated by the main and auxiliary machinery of a naval vessel anchored in a floating drydock. The characteristics of the noise field produced in this test will be described and some comparisons made with the analogous airborne case.
