It is sometimes found that acoustical materials, installed for the purpose of correcting auditorium acoustics or quieting noise, produce results which either exceed or fall short of expectations. A number of typical examples are described and explained in terms of the physical and psychological factors involved. Comments are given on the results which can and cannot be expected in various applications.
