Optical characterization of the aperiodic multilayered anisotropic structure based on Kolakoski sequence

Abstract

ABSTRACT The one-dimensional aperiodic structure is considered which is formed by stacking together chiral and achirallayers according to the Kolakoski self-generation scheme. Numerical simulations are carried out for di erentstructure con gurations to reveal the dependence of the optical characteristics of the system on the generationstage, frequency, chirality parameter, and the angle of wave incidence. Keywords: multilayers, anisotropy, chirality, polarization 1. INTRODUCTION The periodicity breaking in photonic structures leads to the formation of high- Q resonances (localized modes)in the stopbands. The con guration of such resonances depends on the material parameter of elements (defects)which create the periodicity breaking in the structure, their number and position inside the system. Obviously, the presence of several defects in the periodic structure can signi cantly modify its spectral properties. Theseproperties are strongly dependent on the manner of the periodicity breaking which can be organized randomly
