Strain sensor based on permanent bends in single-mode fibers

Abstract

A method to produce permanent bends in single-mode fibers is presented. The losses associated with the bends can be partly recovered when the fiber is strained. A strain sensor with a resolution of 30 ?? is demonstrated.
