Impact of Cephalic Index on Intraocular Pressure as Measured by Rebound Tonometry in Ophthalmologically Normal Dogs

Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine whether cephalic index (CI) affects intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement using rebound tonometry. Methods 33 client‐owned dogs were included. Measurements of skull length and width were taken using calipers, and CI was calculated as (skull width (mm) x 100)/(skull length (mm)). IOP measurements were taken using rebound tonometry (iCare TonoVet). Results 33 dogs were included in this study. CI ranged from 45–105, with an average of 63. Measured IOP was not impacted by CI ( p = 0.2604). Conclusions No effect of CI was detected when using the TonoVet to measure IOP. A larger study may be necessary to determine if CI affects IOP using various methods of IOP measurement.
