A technique of supraclavicular subclavian vein catheterization is described. Points are made concerning the maintenance of the catheter and measurement of the central venous pressure. The indications for and complications of the use of the catheter are discussed. Alternative methods of central vein catheterization are reviewed. Five case reports are presented.
