An open hypertext system, the Konstanz Hypertext System (KHS) has been implemented with the object oriented language Smalltalk (VisualWorks) and the object oriented database system GemStone. We show which types of supports KHS can provide for hypertext construction and which benefits can be produced by construction of hypertexts using KHS. Some issues about hypertext construction are also addressed.
