New function for approximating electrostatic discharge current given in IEC 61000-4-2 Standard is presented in this paper. Its parameters are determined in order to set requirements for the test generator currents. The results are compared to results of other functions from literature. The main advantage is that maximum current values and corresponding time moments are chosen in advance, and other parameters are determined using least-squares method.
