Digitization of audiovisual archives is opening up a wealth of challenges and possibilities for innovations in science, education, and business. The key to unlocking archives for innovation is multimedia technology. In this article the authors zoom in on one of the largest multimedia archives in Europe, highlight collaborative projects with academia, and call for a mutual research agenda.
