Abstract

We find ourselves expending all our effort in gaining technical skills to make the objects or design the systems that benefit society, with little time to broaden our intellectual basis. The Web extra at http://youtu.be/_3hELfdp0-c is a video segment in which author David Alan Grier expands on his Errant Hashtag column, discussing career arcs in technical fields from design to management to leadership and the value of having an engineering degree.
