This paper describes two-dimensional TE (transverse electric) and TM (transverse magnetic) types of wave representation. These fields are of interest as long as waves are guided and can be decomposed into transverse and longitudinal components. Guided-wave propagation problems, such as transmission lines, waveguides with rectangular and/or circular cross sections, infinite-extent parallel-plate waveguides, etc., are best treated using simplified equations obtained from the longitudinal and transverse decomposition of Maxwell equations.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 7 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 10% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
