Abstract

The role that technology assessment plays in making rational policy choices and in supporting the development and diffusion of a technology of proven effectiveness is evaluated. It is argued that technical evaluation is an essential part of assessment. Bioengineers and clinical engineers are encouraged to assume their role as assessors and advisors of decision-makers. >
