Cooperation based multihop relaying for IEEE 802.16

Abstract

With the increasing use of wireless infrastructures, multimedia applications over wireless mobile networks become more popular. IEEE 802.16 standard has become a promising technology to support broadband access and Quality of Service (QoS) for real-time multimedia applications over wireless networks. However for real-time applications having explicit rate and delay necessities, choosing an appropriate path between any mobile station and the base station becomes a must. This paper highlights the characteristics and importance of utilization of relaying in future wireless systems. The focus of this paper is mainly on the cooperative relay selection in the case of mobile multihop relay structures for IEEE 802.16J, i.e., multihop relay specification for 802.16 (WiMAX) standards.
