This paper is a presentation of a new method for designing equalizers of the group delay type. The method is based on the characteristic equation of all-pass filters. The approximation problem, which is solved by a special numeric algorithm, works with zeros and poles of the characteristic function of the all-pass filters. The design system is implemented in the mathematical environment Maple. The design method is illustrated with some examples.
