Abstract

With palpable effects of grid computing in different areas of science, it is essential to address the need for mainstream access to this rapidly growing technology. Effectiveness and accessibility of a cluster is greatly impacted by its ease of use and user interface. A robust job submission and control mechanism facilitates optimum usage of a cluster. OSCAR portal aims to answer such a need and this paper describes the features and benefits of OSCAR Web Portal. The portal provides a central access point to the cluster for both users and administrators. The underlying idea is to integrate usage and administrative functionalities into an easy to use web interface so that authenticated users can easily access the cluster without hard interaction with the head node. As a stepping stone, OSCAR Portal functions using TORQUE resource manager [1] and C3 Cluster Command and Control utility [2] provided as part of the OSCAR [3] package.
