
Market pressures have driven pharmaceutical companies to reassess their current drug development model and reach out to new innovative business models such as drug repositioning. Various techniques that are used in drug repositioning lend themselves to the distributed computing model. The \cloud is one such computing model that optimizes resource usage and represents the current trend for drug repositioning companies in various pilot projects. Security and provenance of data remains the biggest challenge for wider adoption of the \cloud in drug repositioning.
