In this paper, the sensitivity of the split ring nanosandwich is studied after applying asymmetry to the structure. There are two asymmetry configurations that will be presented in this paper which include the tapered-down and the tapered-up configurations. The optical response in both configurations is studied and the sensitivity is measured at varying the asymmetry parameter. This design is characterized by its high sensitivity in a wide range of frequencies ranging from 800–1550 nm/RIU which makes it very attractive for use in biosensing applications.
