A New Hybrid Multilevel Nested Neutral Point Clamped (NNPC) Converter

Abstract

This paper presents a new hybrid multilevel inverter topology which combines a four-level nested neutral point clamped (NNPC) converter with a half-bridge inverter. The converter has less components compared to that of other multilevel converters and features a modular structure for cascading multiple H-bridges to produce higher voltage levels. A sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) scheme is presented which utilizes redundant switching states to control capacitor voltage levels. A three-phase, seven-level converter is simulated and analyzed.
