Functional and physical codesign is concerned with the concurrent functional definition and physical realization of a design. The paper describes the functional/physical codesign problem and concentrates mostly on the physical packaging concerns. The framework and methodology deals mostly on the physical aspect and assumes the functional details are available. It advocates the paradigm of considering system integration and configuration concurrently while system components are being designed, rather than after the system components have been designed. It shows how to keep the functional solution space within the bounds of physics. It also describes the framework, methodology and the use of parametric building blocks, and usage scenarios.
