Spurious modes can occur in the analysis of radiating structures, if absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) are used. They can be put down to complex eigensolutions of the enclosed region, of which the wavenumbers are computed for ABCs of different order. The occurrence of spurious solutions is shown for a single microstrip line, analyzed with the method of lines (MoL) and absorbing lateral boundaries.
