Field results in implementing Signaling system No.7 (SS7) in preparation for the introduction of intelligent network (IN) services are reported. Besides implementing SS7 for interexchange trunk signaling, Italtel has adapted it for communications with remote units, i.e. remote switching modules and subscriber multiplexers and concentrators. IN implementation in a distributed system is discussed. The distributed architecture of the Linea UT intelligent network is described. >
