Presents some of the basic Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture (TINA) concepts and discusses the platform for TINA Prototyping (PLATyPus), an experimental implementation of TINA. TINA will provide a framework for telecommunications software in the future and is currently being specified by the TINA Consortium (TINA-C). This article covers the basic concepts underlying TINA, the tools and infrastructure under development (as part of the PLATyPus project) to implement a TINA-like application environment, and a description of a service design and implementation within that environment. >
